Our network of volunteer DustWatchers provide us with valuable information on dust events, which strengthens our own dust monitoring system. DustWatchers have no obligations to record every event, and can make these observations from their own home.
You too can become a DustWatcher, by recording some simple observations on local dust activity:
-
location this is important!
-
type of dust event a haze? a storm? local dust? learn more >>
-
colour the colour of dust helps us to guess its origin
-
visibility how far can you see? This indicates how much dust is in the air
-
wind direction and speed these help us work out the origin and intensity of the event
-
date and time very important, so we can track the event across Australia
-
photos? comments? videos? these are excellent and can tell us a lot!
-
who you are so we can add you to our DustWatcher network
How you can participate:
-
make a note of dust activity in your area
-
use our online observation form to submit your observations
-
keep print-outs of our Field Observation Form in your house or car
-
take photos of local dust activity
-
tell us your stories about dust events via email, fax or phone.
If you have any questions about becoming a DustWatcher, contact your local coordinator.
