Dust haze

Downwind of a dust source region the dust is transported as a plume which leads to visibility reduction. This is termed a dust haze. The pictures below show images during and after a dust haze event.

The Brisbane Expo site in 1987, during and after a dust haze. Visibility in the haze was reduced from over 50km to just 8km. Roll your mouse over the image to see the effect!

In a dust haze, and clear skies- the Stockman's Hall of Fame, Longreach, Queensland. Roll your mouse over the image to see the difference!

FACT
A single dust particle measures less than 20µm in diameter, smaller than the thickness of a human hair.
